I have built this site myself
with a premium WP theme,
CSS, PHP & jQuery.
Here are some things I learned:
  • Wordpress is great, and so are
    these popular page builders:
    Elementor, Divi & Beaver Builder.
  • I got better at CSS. Breakthrough
skills for me were media queries
    and pseudo-selectors.
  • jQuery is a nice tool, but it takes
practice to add cool effects and
    not hurt site performance.
  • My most time-consuming tasks
    were responsive design and writing
    high-quality technical content.

Why I Love

WordPress is more than just a blog platform, it's a full-blown Content Management System (CMS). You can build any kind of site you want.

There are high-quality plugins to do just about anything:  backup, security, eCommerce, opt-ins, page builders, photo galleries, etc.

It seemed simple enough: I didn't like the way my site's pages looked at higher non-mobile resolutions (1600 x 900, 1920 x 1080, etc.).

So I sized elements in CSS with em or % instead of px. Modifying the theme CSS took a while, and then I started adding plugins. Yikes!
